2025 Jubilee theme: HOPE
In some exciting news from the Vatican, the Pope chooses “Hope” as the overarching theme of the upcoming Ordinary Jubilee of 2025, a theme reflected in the opening words of the Bull of Indiction, entitled “Spes non confundit. Hope does not disappoint.
This is exciting to us, as there are 2.365 billion Christians in the world that are going to focus on hope. Yet how many of them know you can measure hope? And practice specific skills to build hope?
I’ve talked to many Christians that say ‘my hope is in God’. Yet I challenge this, as we can’t just leave it all to God, we actually have to take steps to achieve what we want in life, what we ‘hope for’. And how can we get out of our helplessness to action unless we are taught how? And if we feel despair, unless we are given tools to manage our despair in healthy ways, it can lead us to violence, addiction, self-harm, and more.

I didn’t abandon my relationship with God when I was depressed, I was stuck in persistent hopelessness because I wasn’t taught skills to manage it. If we don’t manage our despair in healthy ways, we get sick. If we don’t know how to manage helplessness with specific steps, it is easy to get overwhelmed and stuck. That is why we teach ‘how’ to manage emotional despair and motivational helplessness, the two ingredients of hopelessness, and teach all the five keys to Shine Hope.
All religious texts speak of hope, and the importance of it. Our work is meant to build on it and teach skills to strengthen hope muscles. So we are excited to help bring Science and Religion together in our work.
It is not Science or Religion. It is both.
What are your favorite Stress Skills?
In the Five Keys to Shine Hope™ framework, ‘S’ stands for Stress Skills that help us with emotional despair. These are actions that help you manage your stress response (sadness, anger, and fear) and navigate challenges effectively. Stress is a normal part of life, it is how we manage the stress that matters.

Personally, I practice Stress Skills by meditating by the water every morning with my pup Yoda, focusing on deep breathing, positive affirmations, prayer, meditation, and gratitude. Stress Skills empower us to tackle life’s challenges with more grace, recalibrate our response, and foster inner peace when things don’t go our way. Learning the 90-second pause has been a game changer for me (and one I still practice daily!).
What are your favorite Stress Skills? Consider sharing with us on Twitter, Instagram, and/or Facebook @theshinehopecompany. Activating skills for hope takes intention and practice, and we learn best from others so please share your ideas so we can share with others.
