Celebrate World Mental Health Day
Today, we come together to honor World Mental Health Day, a reminder that even in the darkest moments, there is always a way forward.
Hopelessness is one of the strongest predictors of suicide. Yet within that same space lies a powerful antidote: Hope.
Hope not just wishful thinking, it’s an action. It’s the decision to believe in tomorrow, to reach out, to keep going, and to help others do the same.
Today, we shine a light on Hope in Action: how it can be nurtured, measured, and strengthened through connection and compassion.
Keep reading to discover how you can measure Hope, and listen to other people’s stories on how connection, honesty, and empathy can turn despair into light, and how each of us can play a part in that transformation.

The Hope Matrix Podcast Special World Mental Health Day Feature
The Hope Matrix Podcast shares two extraordinary conversations about courage, connection, and the global movement to prevent suicide through the lens of Hope. Celebrate World Mental Health Day by tuning in to these powerful stories of resilience and renewal.
Fifteen years ago, I met H. Reese Butler II, the visionary founder of 1-800-SUICIDE and the Kristin Brooks Hope Center. In 2012, both Frank Warren, creator of PostSecret, and I received awards from Reese’s organization for our shared work bringing light to mental health through creative expression and human connection. This series marks our reunion and a reflection on how far the movement for Hope has come.
Episode 57: The Beginning of a Journey, Featuring H. Reese Butler II
When tragedy struck, H. Reese Butler II transformed his grief into action, founding 1-800-SUICIDE, the nation’s first networked suicide prevention hotline. More than twenty years later, his vision has connected millions to life-saving help and Hope. In this moving conversation, Reese shares the light-bulb moment that began it all, the obstacles he faced building a lifeline before “mental health awareness” was mainstream, and the lessons he’s learned from a lifetime dedicated to saving others.
Episode 58: Reuniting Through Hope, Featuring Reese Butler II, Frank Warren, and Kathryn Goetzke
Reese returns alongside Frank Warren, founder of the global storytelling phenomenon PostSecret, and Kathryn Goetzke, who started a Global Movement to ensure all know ‘how’ to Hope. Together, they reflect on how vulnerability and creativity can transform despair into purpose. PostSecret, home to over one million anonymous secrets and a 1.6 million-strong community, has shown how sharing our truths can connect us in our most human moments. This heartfelt reunion reveals what happens when three advocates, each driven by compassion and courage, join forces to remind the world that healing begins with Hope.
Hopeful Minds Deep Dive and The Hope Matrix 5th Anniversary
On this day five years ago, in the middle of a global pandemic, we took action in honor of World Mental Health Day. Today, we celebrate the 5th Anniversary of the Hopeful Minds Deep Dive Curriculum and The Hope Matrix Podcast. Two platforms that have touched countless lives, sparked meaningful conversations, and reminded us all that no one has to navigate mental health challenges alone.
We are grateful for the journey, for the community that has grown with us, and for every story shared, every lesson learned, and every life impacted along the way. Here’s to continuing this mission, turning compassion into action, and inspiring hope for years to come.
