We finally created a business model for Hopeful Cities, and Las Vegas joined Hopeful Cities movement. We are so grateful to Dr. Frank Gard Jameson, Mayor Pro Tem Brian Knudsen, the Mayor’s Fund For Las Vegas LIFE, Hope Means Nevada, and Compassionate Las Vegas who all made it happen. There were many compassionate, committed, inspiring individuals representing incredible organizations that are ready and willing and desiring to activate the ‘how’ to hope in their communities. Watch the event’s TV coverage to find out more!

“Emotions are normal, they are a normal part of life, and it’s really how we use those emotions and use them and transmute them. Just like you manage your blood pressure, I thought why people aren’t taught what hopelessness is and how to manage that symptom and find their way to hope. So, we created the first global evidence-based program that does that.”

The International Day of Hope allows us to join in solidarity on a single day to share the science, stories, and strategies of hope, and to activate the “how-to” of hope in our lives and in communities around the world.

The International Foundation of Research and Education on Depression (iFred) is a 501(c)3 organization based in Reno that is working to teach hope around the world. iFred has worked to shine a positive light on mental health and eliminate stigma through prevention, research and education and created a shift in society’s negative perception of the disease through positive imagery, rebranding, celebrity engagement, cause marketing campaigns, and establishing the sunflower and color yellow as the international symbols for hope.

The organization’s founder and the author of The Biggest Little Book about HopeKathryn Goetzke, along with Hope Activator, Kristen Jaskulski, stopped by Morning Break to share how they believe hope is something that can be taught and learned, and that training people to hope is the key to lowering depression, anxiety and suicide rates.
